PianOcean is an artist and sailing project at the same time. At the center is the pianist Marieke Huysmans Berthou, her voice and her piano, a FEURICH Mod. 122 – Universal with a specially manufactured carbon housing. PianOcean sees itself as an ambassador for the free international culture of the world’s oceans.
On board the historic sailing boat Lady Flow, the islands of this world are visited. Islands are lonely places surrounded by the sea that are strongly connected to their cultures and identities. The project aims to discover precisely these treasures and use the universal language of music to encourage people’s curiosity to meet and inspire each other across all borders.
Every year, PianOcean goes on a long voyage throughout the summer, organizing concerts in remote ports and taking musical finds back home with them. In 2017, the unusual journey took us to the British Isles.
